At 14, Kaat lives in Hasselt, Belgium. She has her sights set on the University of Oxford and a career in space exploration as an astronaut. She dreams of making discoveries that change lives, together with making a difference in gender equality. Perhaps even a Nobel Prize someday-ambitions that make her thrilled to be a part of Oxford Academy online. Kaat is immersed in a rigorous, costumized program of AS and A levels, supercurricular electives and hands-on projects. Her days are devoted to deep academic exploration, with lessons designed to challenge and inspire her. She loves the flexibility of mastering complex material at her own pace, enhanced by live online sessions with her teachers and classmates, personalized guidance and interactive masterclasses featuring experts from leading institutions. While she is creating friendships and connections with fellow classmates who have the same interests and mindset.
Beyond academics, Kaat is preparing herself for space by going to JVS Descartes, a youth movement for those who want to reach the stars. Here she learns about STEM topics like astronomy, physics, chemistry, etc. The given lectures inspire her to make her own lectures. Making hard topics accessible to all ages understanding of these and sharpening her presenting skills. Besides this she is on the swim team, staying healthy and fit, learning to push her physical and emotional boundaries. Despite her busy schedule, Kaat follows philosophy with 11th graders, achieving a more profound understanding on various topics. Kaat’s parents are delighted to have found such a high-quality, flexible education option. They’re proud to support her ambitions during these last few years before she heads of to university.
